Smart Resume

Smart resumes are designed to showcase your skills, experience, and accomplishments in a concise, attractive, and easy-to-read format for the human element - recruiters and hiring managers.

Modern resumes feature sections that are very easy to fine-tune in order to better conform with a given employer's requirements resulting in a competitive edge. 

Meanwhile, ATS systems incorporate Artificial Intelligence and operate as automated candidate search and identification tools while serving as gatekeepers. 

Three simple truths:

1 YOU CAN NOT BE HIRED without first being interviewed. 

2 YOU CAN NOT BE INTERVIEWED if the hiring manager doesn’t know you exist. 

3 KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR EXISTENCE most frequently happens when the employer implements an ATS search and screening tool.

In other words, your resume needs to play nice with ATS in order to avoid a low-score rejection. The goal is to score high enough for inclusion in the “interview stack.” 

Bear in mind that accept/reject events are computer driven without human interaction! Your resume faces this challenge alone!

A WARNING ABOUT LIMITING YOUR JOB SEARCH TO REFERRALS: True, you can find a great job by developing a network of connected influencers and hiring managers and through smart political influence, be ushered into the interview and hired.

Unfortunately, absent a healthy serving of luck, this process can take a year or more; meanwhile, you will miss out on opportunities your network doesn’t even know exist. 

Your best solution is to have a smart resume in the ATS search stream, working for you 24/7. This should be the foundation of your career planning.

Understanding ATS

Automated Tracking Systems (ATS) are used by many employers to review and evaluate resumes. The ATS scans each resume for specific keywords, skills, job titles, and other criteria related to the job for which the candidate applied. It then ranks the resumes in order of relevance and determines which ones to pass on to the hiring manager for further review. The ATS helps employers quickly identify the most qualified candidates and streamline the hiring process.

ATS is capable of conducting pass/fail evaluations of candidates based on their resumes, entering into preliminary employment interviews with those who met the scoring threshold, and even setting up appointments for human interviews, in a completely autonomous mode without human intervention. Experiments with taking the final step of running pre-hire investigations and offering an actual job and contract have met with success.

The potential savings in time and hiring expenses are enormous. 

Conclusion: Ignore ATS at your peril.
